Friends paying for your meal

Hey there guys!

So I have always felt really awkward when people offer to pay for my meal whenever I go somewhere with them. My father has always been the kind of person that loved to pay for things for everyone, but me, I’m not that way. Unless it’s someone from my family I don’t usually offer to pay for anything. I prefer to give them a little gift or something. First because I'm afraid I'll offend them by offering to pay, second because I have no money!

So today a coworker invited me to go to the cafeteria and we ate the same thing, it was almost 10 bucks worth of food. When we went to pay, she said she would py for everything. I refused, but she quickly gave the cashier her credit card and asked her to charge it all there... I don't know why she decided to pay! I'm grateful, but I am also uncomfortable by it... I don't consider her my friend, even though we are very close at work, just because we don't hang out or do anything outside of work. She has a husband and he is always away on business, and she also doesn't strike me as someone who has many friends, so maybe she feels lonely and likes my company?

Either way, I get really uncomfortable when people offer to pay for my things, because I always feel like I owe them later, when in true they were the ones who offered. How do you feel about that kind of situation?

At the end of the day it is their choice to offer and their money to spend.
