sLOVEnia - number 1 country to visit!
I have been lucky enough to get an invite from one of my great friends from Slovenia to come for a visit and exactly during the time when Slovenia is hosting its biggest sports event ever - the European Basketball Championship 2013.
This is my first time visiting this wonderful alpine and mediterranean country located between Hungary, Italy, Austria and Croatia. A really small country, which will stay in your heart forever. If you haven't been to this hidden jewel of Europe (in my opinion even of the entire world) you have truly been missing out. I've been in Slovenia for a couple of days, with two more days left.
I've visited Bled and Bohinj - two lake towns which made me all emotional, due to the amazing nature, all green and blue, I have never before seen and experienced anything like it. We also visited Pokluika - I hope I spelled that right - which is a hilly area of the Triglav national park. Beautiful scenery.
We took one day to visit the seaside, which is rather small, but equally amazing. And one of the best things with Slovenia, although you can take the highway to almost anywhere, you will never leave the green nature which surrounds you everywhere you go!
And then there is....the capital...Ljubljana. It truly deserves its name - smaller Prague. The intertwining of Austro-Hungarian and socialist cultures has left the city to be regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Although smaller than your average capital, it offers everything you desire, a river that runs through the city, great architecture, amazing cuisine and coffee culture and of course extremely nice and friendly people.
If you haven't yet been to Slovenia, you are truly missing out. Have you ever been to Slovenia? If so, what did you like most about the country?
