economic importance of phylum Bryophyta.

bryophytes are found in several habitat but mostly they are popular in damp wet places . Being a major phylum in plant classification, their economic contribution is remarkable. Below are some of them. The first key role is controlling hydrological cyle ,this is because they are hygroscopic in nature.therefore they absorb water from atmosphere and avail them to other plant. secondly they form basis of food chain especially to arthropods. Thirdly bryophytes have phenolic compounds which contain antibiotics properties ie mosses, hence used in treating wounds. fourthly they are used in bio indication since they lack cuticles in their leaves hence absorb everything. finally bryophytes are used in incubating crocodile's eggs.
