Free Lunch And Dinner

Free lunch and dinner?

Yes, my brother-in-law and and mother-in-law came by our house today and gave us two treats, FREE lunch and dinner since they seldom visited us and it has been a long time since we visited them too.

It was like a short gathering between two families.

My mother-in-law went to get her hair cut, washed and permed for two solid hours which had cost her RM120 (USD$33.72). Furthermore, it was a unlicensed hair dresser which gives hair cut at her own residence. Chinese hair dresser really have their own way to earn side income, don't they?

There were 6 of us, we had our FREE lunch at the Dim SUm Restaurant that my brother-in-law paid RM47 (USD $13.21) bill for several dim sums, bao, chee cheong fun and Century Egg Congee which was my favorite! All these food are Chinese families frequently breakfast and snack time meals favorite but it is quite costly.

A plate of dim sum cost RM2.80-RM 6 (USD 79 cents ) , bao may cost RM2.80-3.20 and chee cheong fun cost RM4-6. Anyway, we had more than one plate for each item. That sure sums up a lot of money.

After lunch, we came back home to rest while my brother-in-law and mother-in-law had a long chat with my hubby and daughter. As for me and my son, we watched SHrek 1 and 2.

Later in the evening, we had a FREE dinner at the MAMAK restaurant for a light dinner. This time, it cost less than RM20 (USD $5.34)because we had roti prata, Rojak and tea.

My son was delighted to have meals with them because he missed his uncle and grandmother so much since he had last seen them a few months ago.

As for me, I am delighted that I needn't had to cook lunch and dinner.

My hubby was delighted that he managed to save money since my brother-in-law gave us two treats.

It was an enjoyable gathering and full stomach of food.

Did you had an enjoyable lunch / dinner?

When was the last time you had FREE lunch or dinner?

What did you had?

Cheers!

Wow, so nice and at such affordable prices! Nothing beats a free meal a day but two free meals and great company is a rare bargain indeed.

peachpurple wrote on January 17, 2015, 12:26 PM

yes, two free meals per day at this price is reasonable is USA but in Malaysia, RM20 per meal is common, not RM47!

wolfgirl569 wrote on January 17, 2015, 12:41 PM

Sounds like a great way to spend the day. Cant beat a free meal except with 2 free meals with no clean up after.

Koalemos wrote on January 17, 2015, 12:45 PM

Shrek is definitely my kind of film, as are all animated cartoons.

Deema wrote on January 17, 2015, 1:56 PM

I love dim sum! I also enjoy pork buns as well! I remember the last free lunch for me was at Red Lobster.

k2705 wrote on January 17, 2015, 3:11 PM

Sound good and to get two free meals is good aswell.

iRun wrote on January 17, 2015, 3:49 PM

Wow. $13.21 for dinner for 6 people is VERY VERY inexpensive in the US. I can't believe that would be considered expensive for you. Just over $2 per person.... wow. You can't get anything that cheap here unless it's like ramen noodles (20 cents a package). I haven't had free lunch or dinner in awhile, but I did get a free pastry recently.

iRun wrote on January 17, 2015, 3:51 PM

Seems high for just a cut.... I go to a salon and pay about $15 plus tip =)

trufflehunter wrote on January 17, 2015, 3:53 PM

Sigh I live in Singapore and trust me RM47 per person for dimsum.is way possible.

kat123456 wrote on January 17, 2015, 3:57 PM

How lovely of them to bring treats as well as visit, sounds like you had a lovely time!

UK_Writer wrote on January 17, 2015, 6:50 PM

Free meals would be good to receive - but those prices are super low in any case, so I'd be eating there a couple of times a year and paying for it!

seren3 wrote on January 17, 2015, 7:06 PM

I love Dim Sum! I used to make them from scratch - a big batch so I could freeze some.

who_wants_a_fish wrote on January 17, 2015, 7:34 PM

Wow :) This sounds like a very productive day!

peachpurple wrote on January 17, 2015, 11:52 PM

how much does dimsum per plate cost in SGD? How about the bao and lao mai kai? I know that chicken rice cost SGD$3 = two plates in malaysia

peachpurple wrote on January 17, 2015, 11:54 PM

yeah, that is what i like, no washing up and free 2 meals, what did you had ?

peachpurple wrote on January 18, 2015, 12:14 AM

yes, shrek became my boy favorite, now he wanted to watch part 3 and 4, have to download them

peachpurple wrote on January 18, 2015, 12:15 AM

the hair cut price is exorbitant for an old lady, maybe because of the festive season, yes for shrek

peachpurple wrote on January 18, 2015, 12:17 AM

thats why I mentioned that USA, this amount is cheap but not in Malaysia. RM47 (USD$13) is very very expensive for us. Ramen cost RM2.99 for 6 packets

peachpurple wrote on January 18, 2015, 2:18 AM

yes indeed it was, get together, watch shrek and free meals

peachpurple wrote on January 18, 2015, 2:30 AM

that's right, maybe the hair dresser charges more for old folks, perm and hair cut, really that much?

peachpurple wrote on January 18, 2015, 2:31 AM

yes, i like the char siew buns, roast pork, red lobster? you had lobster for free?

peachpurple wrote on January 18, 2015, 2:39 AM

thanks, it was a great meal and burping a lot

peachpurple wrote on January 18, 2015, 2:43 AM

indeed it was except for the hot dry weather that had spoilt the day

peachpurple wrote on January 18, 2015, 2:49 AM

really? Well to us, RM2.80 per plate of dim sum cost a lot compare to RM2 in the past. Maybe it is our price exchange rate differs a lot. USD $1 = RM 3.65

peachpurple wrote on January 18, 2015, 2:50 AM

you can make from scratch? You are awesome. I never knew the right recipe

Paulie wrote on January 18, 2015, 7:05 AM

I'm happy that you had a good lunch and dinner provided by your brother-in-law and mother-in-law. I have had Chinese dimsum before and it is very good.

I usually cook all of my meal at home, we rarely go out to eat. I live in the United States and it costs a lot of money to eat out between $30 -$40 just for three people.

motrojam wrote on February 2, 2015, 4:50 AM

We had free lunches and dinners when we went home for a vacation to our hometown because my brothers (who earn more) were there too and they shouldered the expenses.

AliCanary wrote on February 2, 2015, 5:10 PM

Wow, last time I got a haircut and perm it was $120.00, and of course, the gal did not come to my home. Free lunch and dinner sounds good!

arthurchappell wrote on February 4, 2015, 4:44 AM

seren3 wrote on February 4, 2015, 2:28 PM

I had a house guest recently who arrived with a load of groceries! We got 2 dinners out of them, plus snacks.
I love Dim Sum! I used to make batches of them but don't eat the pastry part anymore...sigh!
