Masters of the Art of Disdain...

Anyone that is owned by a cat knows that this is true.

That look they give you when you do something that displeases them.

I get them from Louie occasionally, especially if I dare interrupt him while he naps.

And sometimes, I get them from him just because I am a human.

To be sure, he can be loving...and even downright silly when he chooses to be

Mine

But several times a day I get 'the look'...the one that says "Human, I shall tolerate your silliness, but do not expect me to appreciate it."

Gotta hand it to him, he has me well trained these days.

I will do almost anything to avoid getting 'the look'...even if I urgently need to go to the restroom and he is curled up on my lap asleep...or just faking it, and silently laughing at me.

I play a terrible game with Colbert, our tabby cat. He is so intrigued by the DVD player door as it goes in and out letting me retrieve or play my DVDs. I have the remote at the ready and he automatically comes over and sets by it when he comes in for a visit. I push 'open' and the cat's eyes nearly bug out. Then I push 'close' and he pounces on that door, missing it every time. Quite often I will get 'the look' as he looks at me over his shoulder waiting for it to happen again.

The cats in this house are the same way. They especially hate being petted unless they are hungry. "Mom, I love you. Feed me!" lol

Her Royal Highness, Phoebe Underfoots Mouseflinger, Queen of Mars is the supreme mistress of THE LOOK in our household. Of course it is hard to take her seriously when she then rolls on her back with all four feet in the air LOL!

your cat certainly sounds very intelligent , my cat refuses to get off my lap to use the batthroom or anything else or unless perhaps you offer the kitty a treat to get up of your lap

What a beautiful kitty! All he needs is fuzzy long hair, and he'd look like me!

Sincerely, Guiness the Cat.

My black cat Oprah also gives me looks of disdain. I always think that she is not amused when I do certain things such as taking a bath. She always gives me this disdainful look on how I could enjoy a bath full of water.

I think cats do silently laugh at us.

I don't mind "the look" so much if it's not accompanied by claws! That being said, my tiny little female cat Oreo sinks her claws in when she's feeling loving. We call it the "claw hug". It's adorable and painful at the same time.

Looks like you are a cat lover. I have a big cat that is the center of attention from my kids in this house. She is getting pretty old 12 1/2 I think. She gives me lots of strange looks as you describe your owner does as well haha.
