Freedom OF religion...not FROM it...

So I saw someone today offended because Duke University broadcasts the Muslim Call to Prayer...and they said that if they are going to do that, then they should broadcast the Lord's Prayer also.

Of course, the call to prayer is NOT a prayer in itself...but that point didn't seem to matter.

And then they went on about how prayer is not allowed in public schools...of which Duke University is NOT a public school (which they conveniently ignored).

Also ignored was the fact that Duke University has a (gasp) DIVINITY SCHOOL and was actually founded by Methodists.

So...let me see if I have this straight...you are offended by a religious inference being used at a school founded on tenets of religion?

I think some people just like to attack the Muslim faith for any (or no) reason whatsoever.

And before people start going on about terrorists and the Muslim faith, let's not forget about the fights and terrorism committed by Catholics and Protestants against each other...not all terrorists are Muslims.

Our country has a right to freedom OF religion...not freedom FROM religion...even though you might not like that particular religion.

I think most people (and ours courts, unfortunately) have forgotten that distinction...

As you know, I am against all religion because it isn't real, and man made. What's funny though is every religion, from the Methodist to islam, all started out on the right track, and then man decided to make changes. So I enjoy the freedom from religion..

If the Muslims pray sincerely and with understanding, they will not become terrorists.

I do not know what happens to people lately. Everyone is free to believe in what he wants. Religion can not be imposed by force.

The details are quite often ignored when a person feels the need to vent , rant or be offended.

In our place, it's becoming a major issue. I am very much the part of it, but this method of attacking any way possible is out of my comprehension.
And still I justify what I am doing :)

Prayer is an entirely private matter and so is between the individual and God. To put it into the schools or take it out of them should make no difference. As to the Lord's prayer, located at Matthew 6:9 and 10, people forget the earlier words at verses 1a and 7 that say we should not practice our righteousness before men and we should not say the same words (such as the Lord's prayer) over and over again. It is, after all, only a model prayer.
