Beggar with a Smiling Umbrella
In my city it's quite common to find a beggar at a street corner. The men usually wander around among the cars and can be quite persistent in their efforts to get drivers to part with their hard-earned cash.
The women, however, do things slightly differently. They can often be seen seated on the island in the centre of the road, usually accompanied by a small child. Rumour has it that some of them borrow children to gain sympathy. I've never seen anyone give them money, but obviously some people must, or they wouldn't keep coming back.
Today I saw one of these women while I was stopped at a red light. There was light rain falling at the time, so she and her child were trying to shelter themselves under a child-sized umbrella decorated with a smiling face.
I'd have loved to take a photo of this unusual scene, but I didn't feel it would be right to do so.
