Beggar with a Smiling Umbrella

In my city it's quite common to find a at a street corner. The men usually wander around among the cars and can be quite persistent in their efforts to get drivers to part with their hard-earned cash.

The women, however, do things slightly differently. They can often be seen seated on the island in the centre of the road, usually accompanied by a small child. Rumour has it that some of them borrow children to gain sympathy. I've never seen anyone give them money, but obviously some people must, or they wouldn't keep coming back.

Today I saw one of these women while I was stopped at a red light. There was light rain falling at the time, so she and her child were trying to shelter themselves under a child-sized umbrella decorated with a smiling face.

I'd have loved to take a photo of this unusual scene, but I didn't feel it would be right to do so.

I understand how you felt, that's why I have huge respect for photo journalists, who can continue to take pictures in all circumstances.

Hi John. I'm not sure I respect all of them. Some go one shooting when it's really not appropriate to do so.

I just hope that they can find meaningful jobs instead of begging to keep alive.

scheng1 - Some of them don't want to find meaningful jobs. There are people who prefer to make their money begging.

Hello Gina - nice to see you here - I only blog once a day - The umbrella people would have given you a smile for sure - they are simple living people.

Hi Lany. I know you've only been submitting one post a day here. It's not easy writing for two sites. I've been doing it too, only at CGP Gallery instead of Bubblews. And I'm busy deleting posts from B, which will be a time-consuming business too.
