One Of The Reasons Why Christians Misunderstand The Doctrine Of Election Election
Election in the Bible is first and foremost corporate, not individualistic. Failure to understand this has caused a lot to ask and say: "Am I, as an individual, elect?"
Here's an illustration of corporate election:
Because of Tim Duncan, the San Antonio Spurs is the team that I chose to be my team in the NBA. Anyone who will be part of the team, surrounding Duncan, becomes one of my favorites. I cheer for them. I root for them. I egg them on.
Because of Abraham, God chose Israel corporately as a nation. Anybody born an Israelite, by physical birth, during the Old Testament times, becomes part of the chosen nation, Israel. After all, ethnic Israel, was simply an extension of Abraham.
Because of Jesus Christ, God's Ultimate Chosen One, the Church who is His body, becomes, by extension, God's chosen entity corporately. Anybody, through supernatural birth, becomes part of the chosen entity, the Church.
In the Old Testament, God chose a corporate entity---Israel.
In the New Testament, God chose a corporate body---the Church.
Isa 45:4 For Jacob My servant's sake, And Israel (corporate entity) My elect...
Eph 1:4 just as He chose US (corporate body, the Church) in Him before the foundation of the world...
Read Ephesians 1:4 correctly will you? It doesn't say chose us TO BE in Him. No, rather it says chose us IN Him. They are chosen, not apart from Him, but in Him. Because they are IN HIM, they are chosen.
