The founder of Opus Dei, a Roman Catholic order, Josemaria Escriva wrote in a book revered by members the following: "Blessed be pain. Loved be pain. Sanctified be pain. Glorified be pain."
This is loving pain for pain itself. This is asceticism and a perverted form of spirituality. These are doctrines that only come from the perverted views of man:
Col 2:22 which things are all for corruption in the using, according to the commands and doctrines of men ?
The Bible has this to say:
Col 2:23 These things indeed have a reputation of wisdom in self-imposed worship and humility, and unsparing severity the body , not in any honor for the satisfying of the flesh.
Enduring and inflicting pain on ourselves does not in any way bring us closer to God. Drawing near to God is through the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is not through our sacrifices and sufferings that brings us to God. No, rather, it is through the sacrifice and suffering of the Lord Jesus Christ when He died on the cross.
It is not through our performance, but through the Savior that we can draw close to God.
1Pe 3:18 For Christ also once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God , indeed being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit;
