How I Make a Little Free Money on My Lunch Break

I have recently begun examining all the different ways in which a person can make money online. (That is how I discovered Persona Paper, in fact!) In particular, I am interested in "beer money" — That extra cash for purchases that are not essential, but might make life just a bit better. For all kinds of up-to-date information about earning beer money beyond this post, check out reddit's subreddit: /r/beermoney .

I do not plan to make a living entirely off of this, as I already have a full-time job. But therein lies the problem — I want more money but I am pretty busy. The workaround is, of course, the lunch break!

There are all kinds of sites you can join, apps you can put on your smartphone, etc. that will pay you in either cash or rewards for using them. The money offered is not usually life-changing, but it can add up. Here are some of the ways I add to my income after I finish my lunch, but before I go back to work:

  1. Swagbucks - Swagbucks definitely one of the most popular G et- P aid- T o ( GPT ) sites, where you get points for participating in various offers and activities. They offer a huge variety of options, but there are at least 2 standard things right on the front page that you can do every day in a very short time: the Daily Poll , and the NOSO ( N o O bligation S pecial O ffers). I do these every day, then see what else is offered that looks quick and easy.
  2. ReceiptHog - This is an app available for iPhone and Android. You may have heard of other apps like Ibotta that pay you for purchases when you send them images of your receipts, but the beauty of ReceiptHog is that they do not ask for anything else — you do not have to purchase specific items, and they will take receipts from just about any major retailer. They pay you simply for "scanning" your receipts. I save all my receipts, and scan them at work during my break. It takes enough time that you might not want to do it in your real free-time, but it is quick enough that you can get it done after lunch.
  3. Bing Rewards - Did you know that Microsoft will pay you to use your search engine? Maybe that is the only way one can really have any chance competing with Google. Sign up for Bing Rewards, and you can get a limited number of points every day while you search. I do not have to search for much as part of my actual job, and when I do I usually use a different search engine, but there is nothing inherently wrong with Bing, so I use it during my break to search for random things I am interested in. The points build up fast, and then you are done for the day.

Of course, I recently learned about Persona Paper, and today I am using my lunch break to write this post!

For more "free money" tips just like these, check out my just-launched blog, Make Bucks Today (it was the only decent domain name still available!). It is still under heavy development, but I think it is usable.

NOTE: On Make Bucks Today, I use a lot of referral links. Since it is my site, I figure that is okay. However, I did not use them here on Persona Paper, because that is AGAINST THE RULES! Just thought I should be open about it since I am linking to it here, and I am not trying to trick anyone.

This is the second time I have heard of receipt hog, sadly it is not available in the UK. I may look into apps that are similar to it that I can use.

I'm in the US, so unfortunately I do not know what all works in the UK, but I just saw an app called "CheckoutSmart" ( mentioned on reddit. Looks sort of similar, but more like Ibotta perhaps. Please let us know if it works for you!

I am downloading the app to my smartphone now, so will let you know how I get on with it! Thank you so much :)

Thanks for sharing this information I will go and check them out. I would love to be a full time online worker. Monday I start a new job so guess I am going to have to work even harder to get to that goal.

I am currently using my "spare" time to work on discovering and testing these types of money-making tricks, AND blogging about them, figuring I can make a little bit more money talking about how to make money... 2 birds one stone. Perhaps some day I will make a living blogging and posting to sites like this.

Good luck with your blog! I use Swagbucks but it's slow going for me. But, it's "beer money" so I just plod along! emoticon

Swagbucks is good if you know the best earners (maybe I will get to write a post on that...). Lesser known but often recommended are and Quckrewards, which are both similar sites, if you want to try some others.

I have heard of these sites but have not tried them since I have been busy enough writing here and other sites.
