Balance Rewards for Walgreens and Duane Reade Stores

Balance Rewards is the rewards program for and Duane Reade drug stores. Membership is required to receive the advertised sale prices on items in store.

Points can be earned by making qualifying purchases with the card. For example, the weekly ad may advertise to an offer to buy two certain products and receive 1000 points.

Points may also be earned by filling qualifying prescriptions and participating in the Balance Rewards for Healthy Choices program, where you may be awarded points for tracking certain things as walking or blood pressure testing.

Digital coupons may also be loaded onto the card for in-store use. In addition, AARP members may get exclusive rewards.

Points may be redeemed for dollars off a purchase at a rate ranging from 5,000 = $5.00 to a maximum of 40,000 = $50.

Points expire 3 years after being earned. Points will also be forfeited if the card has not been used in 6 months.

More information on the Balance Rewards program can be found on Walgreens' website here or in the help section here . (Note that on the Help page, Balance Rewards for Healthy Choices is referred to as Steps with Balance Rewards, a previous name.)

I love rewards programs.

I did well with the Lean Cuisine and Stouffers' rewards programs. I hate it that they ended them at the end of the year. But I'm supposed to have a $25 Kohl's gift card and a insulated lunch bag on the way.

We don't have a Walgreens near enough to my home to make the rewards system worthwhile for me, but it sounds as if some decent values are available.

I have two within a few miles and several more within 10. Occasionally, they will have a points deal that will entice me into the store, but usually it's just a plain sale item without points. At least with the Balance Rewards for Healthy Choices, I can get points without spending money. This time I'm going to redeem them after I get to 5,000 instead of being greedy and holding onto them.

Yes, better that than losing them altogether.

I have the Balance Rewards with Walgreens. I really like that you can get point by exercising, I have been slowing down a bit but definitely got a lot of points from that! I really like the reward program, I buy a lot of my beauty stuff from Walgreens (shampoos, cleansers, lotions, etc).

It's nice to earn points without having to spend anything.
