My Hobby?

One of my many hobbies is Birds and Birdhouses. I or rather we, my wife and myself, enjoy watching the Birds in our yard. We have a couple of BirdBaths, and I have built several Birdhouses.

Most of the birdhouse are just your normal run of the mill Birdhouse. And the Birds have taken up residence in all of them. And at times have disputes on just whose Birdhouse it is.

My wife had been asking me for several years to build a Birdhouse on the Mailbox. I had built one when we lived in the small town south of us. And someone stole it. So finally I set to work and designed it. Cut all the parts and built it. I painted it a Brick Red to match the siding on our house. Hung a Bird feeder in the tree close to it. And in no time the Birds were flocking to it. It is a large Birdhouse, but it has just one hole. I was not expecting so much activity. Because of the large open area over the Mailbox. At last count I think there are four or maybe five families of Sparrows living in it.

My most interesting Birdhouse, or I think so anyway, is a combination Birdhouse, and Feeder. I call it my UFO Birdhouse. It looks kind of Space Crafty, as I made it using two old Satellite Dishes.

I built a Birdhouse with no top or bottom. Then attached the smaller dish to the bottom, and the larger on upside down on the top. The Birds have a house, and I put feed in the smaller dish. For the small birds and feed on the top for the Doves. And I also placed it on a metal pole to keep the Squirrels out of it.

Good to hear someone talking of hobbies - there were times when every child has a hobby. Now if you ask a child, he would stare at your face as if you have come from outer space. As for me, I still collect stamps, and photo a lot

Good for you to bighead these birdhouses. I enjoy the bluebirds most of all. We have at least three families each spring born in or backyard bird house.

I have never seen before a 'birddishouse' like this! I hope birds enjoy it and you and your wife enjoy the birds presence in your yard.

I have a bird house and also a table for food, I love watching them too. I took the peg out of the front of the birdhouse because it gives bigger birds something to hang onto when they raid the nest looking for chicks or eggs.
