Heroin is derived from morphine. A gateway drugs usually used to mean marijuana. Prescription painkillers are addictive and are usually synthetic opiates. Now prescription drugs have become gateway drugs.
Oxycontin is an extremely addictive painkiller and honestly why is it still on the market? It used to be crushed and inhaled by people trying to get high and has been re-issued in a gel form so it can't be used that way.
Individuals put on oxycontin by their physicians commonly have areal problem getting off the drug. They may hoard pills at home and refill presciptions in order to stay on it longer.
The trouble is, oxycontin is way more expensive than heroin on the street. One pill may sell for $80.00. So those addicts move on to heroin.
