Problem with Captcha (According to Avast)

I have been getting this warning every time I hit the submit button and the Captcha box opens up. It does it before I hit the arrow to actually play the code.

Here is a larger shot for elitecodex to check out.

I'm not sure what is going on, or if anyone else is getting this warning, but I wanted to let y'all know. Please let me know if it's nothing to worry about and I will report it as a false positive. If it is something to worry about, then good luck fixing it.

Let me know if you need me to do anything else to help. I never really know what to do about this stuff so I just post it here for you to see. I hope it isn't anything too serious.

Don't touch it with a bargepole! It's probably an advert and if you click anywhere on it you will start a download of an unwanted file which could mess up your browser. Some of these adverts are very clever and really look genuine. Best leave it alone. If it is a genuine warning then there's probably a dodgy advert elsewhere on your screen which has been detected. elitecodex should certainly know about it.

I have been using the X at the top to close that box.

AngelSharum - if doing that hasn't done anything nasty then it's probably a genuine warning.

I have avast and haven't had any warnings like that pop up when the capcha codes have come up. i'd run a full scan with my anti virus and anti malware just to be on the safe side though.

iRun wrote on January 5, 2015, 5:35 PM

I haven't gotten any popups period, or captcha either, all I do is save what I write as a draft, then go back into the draft file and submit from there. Try that when you write your next article, let me know if you still get a popup. Maybe you need to run an antivirus scan or enable a pop up blocker?

I don't get the warning but have continuous problems with CAPTCHA

AngelSharum wrote on January 5, 2015, 6:26 PM

I will do that but it was done just a bit ago.

AngelSharum wrote on January 5, 2015, 6:26 PM

I've always done articles this way and this has only been happening the last few days.

AngelSharum wrote on January 5, 2015, 6:27 PM

Sorry to hear that.

luisga814 wrote on January 5, 2015, 7:21 PM

Same with AngelSharum , i just click the X mark when the code is not visible. Good morning.

If you don't actually have avast on your computer, it's likely an advertisement. I'll tell Will to get over here to check it out.

MaeLou wrote on January 5, 2015, 7:46 PM

Do you refresh it as soon as you go to submit. If it's something where it's just saying it's wrong the first time, it is likely just timing out and needs to be refreshed.

It looks like you have some sort of malware in your machine. Outside of that Amazon thing on the right size, we have no advertisements on that page. It looks like something in your browser is inserting it into the webpage. Doing a Google search for "vb3k" produces a handful of blog posts with instructions on how to remove it as it appears to be a nuisance.

celticeagle wrote on January 5, 2015, 10:22 PM

I will try refreshing.

Feisty56 wrote on January 5, 2015, 10:33 PM

I do love how you and Heather get right on top of this stuff!

Brenda wrote on January 5, 2015, 10:41 PM

This is good answers from now on I am going to save mine first then post from there after refreshing. I have had a terrible time getting my last post to post but finally it did.

AngelSharum wrote on January 5, 2015, 11:30 PM

Hate to hear someone else is having the problem.

AngelSharum wrote on January 5, 2015, 11:31 PM

I do have Avast on my computer.

AngelSharum wrote on January 5, 2015, 11:32 PM

I will ask my son, my computer tech guy...lol, to look at it tomorrow. I have never had that show up anywhere but here and only when the captcha box shows up. That's why I thought it was connected to the site. I figured if it was something on my comp it would do it somewhere else too.

AngelSharum wrote on January 6, 2015, 1:47 PM

Ok elitecodex we did the scan and I have no problems on my computer. My son said it might be something with the Captcha thing itself. I don't know. I will just keep hitting the x on the box I guess. Again, I haven't had this problem ANYWHERE else on my computer, and if you scroll up, I believe someone else here is having the same thing happen.

AngelSharum wrote on January 6, 2015, 1:48 PM

You shouldn't have to do it that way though. Send a message to elitecodex because you should be able to do articles the right now. Not have to save a draft first.

nbaquero wrote on January 6, 2015, 5:30 PM

AngelSharum elitecodex if you really pay attention to the Avast Warning box, you can see you can report this as a false positive. From what I was able to research it looks like Avast jumps the gun on almost everything. Read here https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=103102.0

AngelSharum wrote on January 6, 2015, 6:10 PM

My son said that won't really stop it though unless Avast gets with the site and checks stuff every which way. For some reason, I didn't get the box on my last post. I have done nothing to my comp so I don't know why, but I was glad.

FreyaYuki wrote on January 7, 2015, 1:17 PM

Sorry to hear about this. Hope it can be resolved soon. Don't use Avast so don't know if it's happening to other Avast users. Also don't see a captcha when I post an article here. It just gets posted automatically when I click on the "submit" button.

FreyaYuki wrote on January 7, 2015, 1:20 PM

Same here. Also haven't gotten popups here. Also don't get a captcha when I submit posts here. Now that I think about it, maybe it is because I save it as a draft first.

BarbRad wrote on January 7, 2015, 3:33 PM

I also had this problem and reported it. I haven't noticed it as much anymore, but I haven't posted much this past two days. I always refresh the captcha once before submitting.

AngelSharum wrote on January 7, 2015, 6:20 PM

It happened again today. Guess I'll just keep hitting the X.

AngelSharum wrote on January 7, 2015, 6:21 PM

Refreshing the Captcha doesn't make that box go away though. I have no idea what it is, but my computer is clean according to my scans.
