Introduction for SandraInSpain
Hello there. I'm Sandra, I'm 62, and I'm a freelance writer and blogger based in Algorfa, on the Costa Blanca in Spain. I love life in Spain, and that's mostly what I write about, although I'll consider anything that interests and/ or challenges me.
In my spare time, I like to read, swim, and walk - always accompanied by my dog, Paddy. He's a Border Collie/Labrador/Hooligan cross, but I love him to bits, and I wouldn't be without him.
A couple of times a year, we take off in my motor home for adventures, with my husband Tony. I love to cook, particularly Spanish food, which is so healthy and simple. When it comes to eating out, I'll try anything once. My favourite drinks are cava (Spanish sparkling wine, which is far superior to champagne) and vodka. Being English, I also love tea. With milk and no sugar, if I drop by your place!

Hello and welcome. I've never been to Spain, but it sounds like such a beautiful country. I would love to visit it one day. Oh, and I'm not British, but I like tea with milk as well :)

Welcome to Persona Paper. I've been to Spain several times and loved it. Estepona is a favourite for our family and Tarifa beach is great, although the wind was fierce when we were there.

Cava is nectar Janey! Good to catch up with you here too honey. x
SandraInSpain wrote on January 6, 2015, 5:16 AM
Hello honey. It's the only way to drink it, in my opinion!

Hello there. I write a lot about Spain, so I'm sure to put some up here. I always think you should tell people about yourself, and not hide behind the anonymity of the Internet - you form meaningful and lasting friendships that way.

Hello Debbie. I've never been to Estepona or Tarifa, but I've heard good things, so it's on the list!

I do not know much about Spain but do know that line from the movie "My fair Lady" "The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain" (lol)

Is there anything you can compare Cava to? Is it sweet? If so, I'll have some!x
SandraInSpain wrote on January 6, 2015, 10:39 AM
Semi-seco is fruity and not exactly sweet, but very gluggable. I'm sure you'd love it! x

I have never been to Spain and would love to hear lots about it! Motoring around must be a lot of fun. Nice to see you here!

I have been to Costa Blanca many times over the years, although the nearest I have been to Algorfa would be Guardamar del Segura.
SandraInSpain wrote on January 7, 2015, 4:24 AM
You do know the area then! Guardamar is about 15 minutes drive from us. Algorfa is a very pretty village, nestling in a valley and surrounded by orange groves. It's typically Spanish, and we have a great restaurant there - 4 courses of home cooked Spanish food with wine for just €11!
SandraInSpain wrote on January 7, 2015, 4:25 AM
I prefer driving in Spain to the UK - the roads are better, and there's less traffic, although Spanish drivers can be a bit manic.
Koalemos wrote on January 7, 2015, 4:29 AM
Yes, I liked Guardamar and remember an excellent street market, which I think was on Wednesday. It was a fairly easy journey because I got the bus from Alicante Airport to Alicante and then the Costa Azul coach down to Guardamar.
SandraInSpain wrote on January 7, 2015, 2:38 PM
Yes, Guardamar market is Wednesday, and there is good public transport in that area. Unfortunately, it doesn't stretch down to us in Algorfa. Once you're past Torrevieja, it fades away.
Koalemos wrote on January 7, 2015, 3:41 PM
Yes, I do realise that because I caught the service into Torrevieja from Guardamar. It is obviously just a coastal service. but was ideally suited for me.

Hallow, welcome to Persona Paper! I ate Spanish food only once in my life and I liked it. It wasn't heavy food , more like a sandwich I think, but I remember I loved it.

Mum-in-law did a stint as a travel rep in Estepona after retiring from her teaching role here in the UK. She loves the weather out there too, and the fact that her beloved brother and his wife have a time share in Nerja is an added bonus. My husband and I went to Torreblanca and Fuengirola to visit her while she was out there working but haven't been back since she packed in the repping when the recession hit.
