I'm Thinking Of Starting My Own Small Business

I have been researching ways I can make more money, my resolution for this year was to buy my own house, and as you can imagine it's an expensive venture!

One of my greatest passions is animals. I love my pets like they are my babies, so being able to do something involving animals would be great!

I already do dog sitting on the site, and make a fair amount of money from that, but I could always use more (couldn't we all).

I had made a doggy treat jar for work (where we are allowed to bring pets to work with us) and that's how I came up with this idea.

I will make custom dog treat jars and healthy, yummy dog treats. Even in poor economic times, animal lovers continued to spoil their beloved four legged friends, so it made sense to me!

I came up with a cute name for the business, I have a few different recipes with variations of ingredients I can use, and pretty soon I'll work on building a website. And I'll get cute cookie cutters to make fun shapes to delight the dog owners!

What will really determine how successful this business is is of course the marketing. I know of a few groups on Facebook I can post to, and will get a lot of views. I just have to hope there's interest!

If this part of the business does well, maybe I'll add treats for other pets, and maybe other products.

Have you ever started a small business? What was it? How did it go?

Good luck with your goal to buy a house, you certainly sound motivated enough to achieve that!

Thank you! I'm definitely motivated. You could save that lives literally depend on me getting a house...I can not foster for the rescue I co-direct until I get my own house! So *fingers crossed* -- it doesn't help when you have to take time off of work because you're sick though -_-

Not me, but as you know my daughter started her dog grooming business last June and I won't lie to you, it is h.a.r.d. Of course I would help where I can, buying treats (if I have the extra funds and if you sell online) and sharing your page to promote your business.

Good luck to you. I answered your question about mystery shopping on one of my posts by making another post. Pet stores get mystery shopped too!

Thank you Carmelanirel! :) I'm doing pretty well with my pet sitting business (keeping track of earnings, finding work) - I have never tried a product business so we'll see how it goes! :) But help marketing is ALWAYS appreciated! Lol

Ooh thank you! I'm going to go look for it now! I would love to be a mystery shopper for a pet store, and excuse to go there! Haha

Just let me know what I can do to help.

What a gorgeous photo! Is that one of your dogs at the rescue?

Thank you! :) That is actually a dog I saw one day (before joining this rescue) at a PetSmart adoption weekend. I thought his coloring was so cool, I texted my brother a photo of him. He texted me back "Get me that dog." The next day we went back to the same PetSmart and he adopted him :) His name is Rorshak (like the ink blot tests - because of his face). He is a Catahoula Leopard Dog mix.
