Rescued

It started with a simple internet search. I was looking for another companion - someone that would keep our rescued Cattle Dog, Marina, company. I wasn't able to find a match locally, so I expanded the search to Los Angeles, and it was there that I found Petey. His picture and story melted my heart immediately. He was evidence in a cruelty case and was going to be euthanized after the case was closed. Thankfully, he was given a second chance by Forte Rescue group, and was being fostered until he found a "forever home."

I called to see if Petey was still available and His foster mom told me that I was the only person that had ever inquired about him. When I asked where he was being fostered, I found out that it was less than a mile away from my sister-in-law's home. We would be there in a few days for Thanksgiving so it was already feeling like it was meant to be. We made arrangements to see him and his foster mom graciously invited us to meet him on Thanksgiving. It was love at first sight.

Petey had many strikes against him in the adoption world. He was "old" at five, his coat was black, and he was skittish due to his prior abuse while being used as a "bait dog" in dog fights. For us, it was all we needed to know to give him the forever home he deserved.

That's awesome!! I'm so glad you rescued that poor little guy. I'm sure you'll give him the best years of his life.

That is so neat that you got to adopt him! I do hope you will come back here and write more and interact.
