When you walk with God

I am a bit shaken up right now at what I saw this morning. I have a childhood friend who I have known for 20+ years that is like family to me who was by my bank talking to the grass. I know this might sound funny to you but it's really not, it's sad. He is a known heroin user and has struggled with drug addiction his whole life. Surprisingly, he believes in God and has went to church on several different occasions, I have even listened to with him before. I thought to myself " well, how can someone who believes in be strung out on drugs." Well, it's very simple. When you accept into your heart and you walk with him and then decide to turn your back on him, really bad things will happen to you. God is a king and needs to be obeyed and respected and by choosing to do drugs my friend has put himself and his selfish desires before serving God. That was a big error on his part. I'm not saying that God will not forgive him if he decides to turn his life around because our God is very forgiving, I'm just saying that if my friend continues putting himself first he will end up dead. Yes, it's a very serious offense putting ourselves first.

HMMM....I do not think that him turn his back on God,is unforgiving!! God forgives all....maybe he does want to get way from drugs and can not..I am sorry but I believe in God but people make the choice in life,God is there if you need him...By the way God does n,t judge people either!

We had a similar situation in our extended family. The family attended church regularly, but I don't think it really connected with them. Both husband and wife were doing drugs, but the wife was also a heroin addict. Both had to go to jail and my husband and I and my mother were fostering the children for a year. The husband got out and decided to stop using. It took the wife many more years and going back and forth to prison, before she got into a BSF group right there in prison. That's when she really learned what it meant to walk with God. When she came home, she went through a residential rehab and got clean. She has now been clean for ten years +. They have found a better church and you can see the changes God made in their lives. I hope that will help you see that even when a person seems beyond hope, God can still reach out.

I am not a believer, I have my reasons but totally respect anyone who does. I think this poor man needs help, whether it comes from god or a friend.

Nice post. However if you seriously think taking drugs is against God's wishes, why do we drink wine at communion? Isn't alcohol a drug? It is impossible to make up rules for others. Believe what you will, but only for yourself.

Wow that's a blessing that she could get clean after all those years. I'm always concerned when my loved ones are hurting because it's in my nature to save everyone even though I know I can't.

Only God can, when they decide to let him.
