Color Of The Year 2015

From "Radiant Orchid" (color of the year 2014) to " Marsala ".

This is the color chosen by Pantone to represent the year 2015.

If you want to know the full story of Pantone colors, you can check this link to Wikipedia: Pantone

The color of this new year is inspired by the Italian Marsala wine.

This wine from Sicily, it is a full bodied wine, its color is a warm deep reddish brown.

You can see a glass of real Marsala in my picture, on the right is represented the "Pantone Marsala" color. In the photo I have also added the two previous "colors of the year".

To be honest, I do not think that the color really represents the real natural shade of this wine, that in my opinion is more warm and with golden shades.

What do your think of this color?

This time, it seems that people reaction to the color announcement is not positive.

I don't know much about colors but I would be interested in finding out how they came up with Marsala as the color for 2015

LadyDuck wrote on January 2, 2015, 10:06 AM

If you go to the Pantone site there is a long explanation of the reason why they choose this color.

I see, I can't promise that I will but hey, I am staying with purple for 2015. Anything shade from lilac to mauve, anything along that range will do me well.

LadyDuck I never knew they were colors of the year! It's all marketing right?

LadyDuck wrote on January 2, 2015, 10:29 AM

Of course it's all marketing. I think to remember they started in year 2000. I never really understood the criteria of their choice.

nbaquero wrote on January 2, 2015, 10:45 AM

They should add you to the selection panel, then you can help them straighten their criteria. emoticon :winking:

I only see two colors that I like in 14 years, I do not know who are the "experts", but this year they missed :D

Marsala is a color I can live with. I'm certainly not a fashion plate myself, but those Pantone color selection affect everything from clothing to housewares.

LadyDuck wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:30 AM

You are right, the spirit of their choice is to influence everything, from clothing to everything else in the house. Now, we all know that not everyone can wear any color. I have not seen many people dressed in "emerald green" two years ago.

How do they work out which colour is favourite there are so many. I suppose colour is in the eye of the beholder.

Its a nice color. But am not familiar with Pantone and this years color. But I am now through you. Very interesting and will check it out. Happy 2015 New Year.

Personally I like it although I have read that many don't -- they see it as the color of blood or rust. I think it is a vibrant color although I have to admit, I'm not a into fashion a lot so I'm not going to run out and buy stuff just because its in the color of the year, lol.

LadyDuck wrote on January 3, 2015, 4:44 AM

I am pretty sure that this is a "commercial" matter. They have a team of "experts", that choose the color. If you go to the Pantone site they explain a little how this is done. I never really understood.

LadyDuck wrote on January 3, 2015, 4:45 AM

This year they have picked up a color that I like more, but I still do not completely understand the reasons behind the choice.

LadyDuck wrote on January 3, 2015, 4:47 AM

I like the color of this year much more that the previous two. This is a warm color.

nbaquero wrote on January 3, 2015, 6:31 AM

I agree. Coincidentally in the online newspaper I read in Spanish there was the article about Pantone and the Marsala Color. I immediately knew what it was thanks to your post! Good timing!

momathome wrote on January 3, 2015, 1:37 PM

LadyDuck I don't have a clue what the previous colors were, lol. I had never heard about a "color of the year" until I read about it doing a poll the other day on Swagbucks. I've just never been into fashion much....

I never even knew there was a different colour for each year, sounds interesting though.

LadyDuck wrote on January 4, 2015, 5:29 AM

Many times, these decisions are purely commercial, but it is interesting anyway.

FreyaYuki wrote on January 5, 2015, 1:03 PM

Didn't know about this color of the year thing or Pantone. Will check out the site when I have more time. Sounds interesting. The color looks fine though I don't know about calling it the "color of the year". I think this should depend on what people want or like since not everyone will like the same colors.

rebel_woman06 wrote on January 6, 2015, 2:04 AM

For me it is a color that lacks luster . Though if you have this in shirts at least the dirt won't be noticeable much. lol

LadyDuck wrote on January 6, 2015, 10:25 AM

They call it "The Color Of The Year" and all the media write about this color when it is announced.

LadyDuck wrote on January 6, 2015, 10:26 AM

It's not a "brilliant" color, I do not like it very much. I love the yellow and pink much more.
