Animals are so Funny!

Animals offer much comfort and joy to their "owners." They have even been noted for the health benefits they bring. Pets also can be very funny and entertaining. Although they are a great responsibility and take much commitment, I feel having pets is very worthwhile if you are an animal lover as I am.

Over the years I have had many pets and have a large collection of wonderful memories from current pets as well as those who have passed away. I could write a novel of all the funny and loving memories!

Right now we have Simba, a new puppy , who is a hoot. He was born in early August and we've had him since the third week of September.

We noticed when he was very young (well, he still IS very young, but soon after we first brought him home) he would look at himself in our DVD case which has a glass front and see his reflection and bark. He would growl, sometimes run away, and just carry on in a hilarious manner.

The other day when I was alone in the house with him, he started barking and growling in the kitchen. He isn't typically much of a barker. At first I thought he was looking out the window at something. I quietly went in to investigate without him noticing and saw him staring at himself quite intently and vocally in the oven door's reflection!

He has started doing the same thing in the dishwasher as well. I guess anything that has a shiny or reflective surface is a potential doorway to entertainment from Simba gazing at himself!

Simba sounds like a spirited puppy. : ) I see many happy, interesting hours in your future.

That is funny. I remember when my little brother discovered mirrors. He'd stand on the sofa, which had a large mirror hung over it, and he'd make faces at himself. Our neighbor cats often think that reflection of themselves they see in my sliding glass door is an attacker coming to challenge them.

So much fun when they are that age ,make the most of these days ,as you know they grow up so speedily.

Most pets react to their own image but they will stop doing that after they get used to it - probably they relaise that it is their own reflection.

I, too am an animal lover, though my all time favorite domestic creature is the cat. I grew up surrounded by cats and dogs, and I have a great love for them. If I could, I'd have many of each. It's sad to go to any of the local pet places and see so many looking for forever homes. Your new pup is adorable, and I hope he brings you many, many years of companionship. You write very well, by the way! Merry Christmas to you!!

My cats have little interest in mirrors--I guess they figured it out when they were wee kittens. They still do awesomely silly things, though!

I agree, it breaks my heart that so many gentle souls are lonely and miserable...
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a nice compliment on my writing as well! Happy holidays to you and your family. : D

Yes, he has been doing it less and less but it's funny when he finds a new reflective spot... Then it takes him a little while to get used to it all over again. ; )

I cherish every moment, time flies!

That's funny. I've known cats and dogs to look at their reflection, thinking it was a threat of some sort.

Simba is a little dog with a lot of personality! LOL
Thanks and happy holidays. ; D
