Christmas Bokeh

I have been trying to get a truly nice bokeh photograph this Christmas. So far, these three are my best shots. The first one is just me playing around and making the whole tree into bokeh. It is a long way from perfect, but not terrible.

The other two photos are a little better. I think I have finally figured out what to do to get some good bokeh shots. Now, I just have to see if my living room is big enough to do it up proper.

I need to put my focal point farther away from the tree because my camera won't do f 1/8 or anything like that, it will only go to f 4/0 or so. The problem is that my living room isn't that long so I might not be able to make it happen. We will see if I get one I'm really happy with before we take the tree down.

Anyway, here are the other two photos I've got that I actually like.

I like the lighting and the boken in this one. The card is from a friend.

I don't like the lighting in this one as well but I do like the composition a little better.

Hope y'all are having a great weekend!

I,like the middle one best, including its composition.

It is the brightest and prettiest. I just like the card off to the side better myself.

Prefer the first one.

From what I know about it (which isn't much) good bokeh is very difficult to do and a lot seems to depend on the lens as opposed to the camera. I like the bottom one best.

ah beautiful my friend , both are looking awesome

It is cool. I'm gonna try it again one night now that I know more what to do.

It does depend a lot on the lens. The best shots are with lenses that can go to F 1/8 or lower, which I don't have.

I'm glad you like them, thanks.

I like the two with the card. Without something that's in focus for contrast, the bokeh effect just looks like something that's out of focus, to me. Makes me feel like I forgot my contact lenses, lol

You really need a mirror lens for the best effect..

Nice picture. I do believe that we have to celebrate Christmas even if we don't have enough budget :)

AngelSharum wrote on December 7, 2014, 10:06 PM

Well, that's really what it is...lol

Yeah, I know my lenses aren't the right ones, but it's still fun to play.

I think that has to be my favorite one, as well.

I don't know what bokeh is, but I'm guessing it has to do with the degree of focus on the lights and/or ornaments. I also like the middle photo best. I like the contrast.

Yeah, it's when you purposefully make those little circles on the background.

I don't know what bokeh means but based on the photos you uploaded, I think I kind of know what.
