A-W Commenting

I just finished reading through and commenting on posts in eighteen different Persona Paper categories. (OK I'd already commented a few times before that, plus a made a few side trips into other categories when I noticed a user that had some extra interesting posts to share!)

It took me roughly an hour, so I'll come back for another hour later on in order to finish bestwriter 's . (Yes, it's shorter than writing in each category, but it does take time to read too! And she wants it all done in a single day. You're a slave driver, Grace!)

One thing I noticed while I was out and about is that many of the posts that are coming up under “trending” were written back in July and August. They likely haven't seen any traffic in months, but because they received a large enough number of page views or comments, they are now the trending posts.

It would really help if we got this site rocking with both new posts, and with comments and views to the newer posts. Let's kick the older, inactive posts out of the trending lists!

Would you like to help? Please click on the newer posts if you go to a category page. And try to write on a variety of topics, so everyone will see the great new content offerings here at Persona Paper!

I did it while I was watching the funeral coverage of Phil Hughes on tv. Ofcourse I did read every single post before commenting. You know something. There is a treasure trove in the categories section if anyone wants to increase coins. I know it is restricted. That trending thing should be out. I am sure elitecodex will look into it.

If the writers of the trending posts are still active, that will be acceptable. If they are not active, might as well kick their posts out of trending list.

Between you and bestwriter , I'm convinced this is a challenge I want to accept. Here's to more site activity, comments and maybe meeting some new writers. : )

That is some kind of challenge. But Users are taking up each category challenge more since i read posts about them in morning

More activity surely cannot hurt, for sure, surely.

The more activity the better - be it on Trending posts or not.

Me and my memory! Would you know at what point in time views dropped. They used to be even in hundreds and now we see them in single digits.

I am finding it easy to get all my responses and such done. I am going to try to be a bit more active but am busy with article completion and posting right now. Busy, busy.

Great idea. I may give it a try when I'm home and up to it. It's all I can do now to stay current with my connections here.

The main problem is that those posts were submitted back before Will wrote the new algorithm for page views, which really put the brakes on them. It used to be possible for posts to get 70, 80, 90 views pretty easily, but now it's a huge challenge to get out of the teens, at least for me. It helped when there was a "popular posts" feature on the front page, but there's really no way for posts to aggregate views now that they drop off the home page within a day or so. We have TONS more members these days, but the views are not keeping pace with that at all.

AliCanary wrote on December 6, 2014, 12:09 AM

I could probably find it, because I wrote a post about it back when it happened. Will said he'd written a new algorithm to track views, and I guess it was EXTREMELY limiting.

AliCanary wrote on December 6, 2014, 12:16 AM

I got it...near the end of July was when page views dropped like a rock. It's very easy to see on my spreadsheet. I wrote the article July 31st, but I can see the dropoff starting a few days earlier. That explains why all the "trending" posts are dated before then, as I mentioned in my comment below.

bestwriter wrote on December 6, 2014, 12:17 AM

Thanks for that. Yes. It was that 'popular posts' that attracted more views.

There is prospect of earning good when one takes such challenges.

crowntower wrote on December 6, 2014, 4:12 AM

Wow you are a very hardworking person and know how to focus in reading all those articles in each categories. Anyway I am more on looking at the title that interest me. I pick 3 title in each persona friends I have and that's it.
