What should I eat?

I now realize I have gained so much weight after looking at all my pictures on Facebook then and now. And after A high blood pressure attack a few days ago I knew I had to do something if I didn't want to go to the hospital. I drastically made some changes in my diet. I do not eat white rice anymore and I replaced my white bread with wheat bread. I know also stay away from pork and beef. I only eat chicken and fish. I also make sure that I have vegetables and fruit in my diet each day.

There are many new diets out there and I'm really confused on what to follow. There is the Paleo diet, Atkins, Subways and many more. Still I choose to follow the advice of a nutritionist on the website I found. Nothing beats a balanced meal providing you with the right amount of calories and nutrients for the day.

I would suggest that you do some exercise including walking everyday ratheer than restricting your food.

There are different types of diet, some are low calorie, some are low fat, some are low carbohydrate. A "healthy"diet, is often taken to be one, as you have described, where you eat a bit from all the food groups in moderation. Try cutting out, or down on, carbohydrates like bread, rice potatoes an d pasta and add extra good fibre with more green vegetables and salads. As bestwriter has said, good exercise too.

Don't diet. Reduce quantity of food, "half it" and add more exercise.

Ignore the fad diets; you are already taking the right steps where nutrition is concerned, by eliminating starchy stuff like white rice, bread, and potatoes and adding more fruits and veggies and lean protein. Also try to eliminate sweets, and as bestwriter advises, regular exercise is ideal. One thing you may not have thought of is weight training. Just do lots of reps with low weight and you won't bulk up, but you will firm and tighten your body and it will raise your metabolism so you burn calories better.

Weight training converts fats into muscle - good advice. emoticon

Good luck on your eating healthy plans. I'm doing the paleo diet under guidance from my doctor. My youngest has allergies and can't have milk or milk related products.
