Cleaning Up My RebelMouse

Last night I saw a link to my RebelMouse page in my list of Tweets to reuse and schedule. I hadn't been there in months, so I decided to see what was posted and saw too much that should not be there. I spent hours after that cleaning it up.

If you don't yet use RebelMouse, it's a site you can set up to save and organize what you have tweeted or posted on certain other sites onto your own own page, complete with the attached photos. It expresses your interests and packages them into a visually appealing page, somewhat like You can then email the link to friends, or post it on social networks, etc. I just posted a link to my page for Readers and Writers on tsu. It has gathered my posts that use certain hashtag into one, easy-to-browse page with a photo for each link.

My page was still attractive enough , but it was full of dead links to posts on , , , and . Some links also went to posts that are either obsolete or destroyed by the site update. And don't even get me started about the links to my pins, which also came from those places and are spread throughout my eighty remaining boards. My boards are next on the chopping block. I've already deleted two of them devoted to Bubblews.

It's wonderful to have tools like and, but they hold your material for a very long time. Pinterest is even worse. I did delete all my Squidoo group boards, but I still have pins to pages that no longer exist there I need to clean up.

How about you? Do you have any past links to clean up?

Oh, you mean I have to go back and clean things up? Now I feel like a little kid who got my blocks out and all over the floor. lol Cleaning up is a good idea and something I best do soon.

I have recently finished deleting links to Squidoo from my Pinterest page, My YouTube channel and my Google+ account and to those pages on Bubble Ooze which I have removed from that site. I didn't have that many and it took me ages! I can imagine how many you have to deal with. :)

It's amazing to see all the work that now leads to nowhere.

Yikes! I don't even want to think about Google+ and Facebook. Or Scoop-It. Or all the sites I hardly ever visit anymore. This gives 'spreading oneself too thin" a whole different meaning. I'm trusting that most people won't look beyond the past few weeks on Google+ and Facebook. And then there's all the stuff posted in the individual groups.

You guys are all over the Net. I marvel at your capability to write for so many sites and now you say you have a place to collect your writings and send them to wherever you wish to. Hats off!!

And by the way do you get Ads that block your page fully! They are a pain. I delete them even before they open. Have sent mail to'contact'

BarbRad wrote on November 26, 2014, 2:50 PM

I do get those ads -- usually telling me I need to install something. Then I have to close the page so nothing bad happens. This happened when I tried to follow a link in someone's post here.

I do have some dead links that I need to track down and delete. Most of them are long buried on Facebook, though. One good thing about Google+ is that if you search the URL, you can often find the G+ post where you promoted it.

BarbRad It sure takes a lot of time to clean up those accounts, and keep the links updated. I need to do that too, but first I gotta complete my posts-backup at the "other site" the one that starts with B.

I've not tried cleaning up Google+ or groups on Facebook. No one really looks at those much a week after you post them, if then.

BarbRad wrote on December 4, 2014, 7:59 PM

There are only a few of those I didn't write in a word processing program first, so I have backups for most every one of them now. Unfortunately I didn't learn to do that when writing for Squidoo until close to the end.

The scattered way posts are listed on your friends' feed, I really don't think people see much of anything. I know I don't, unless it's someone I've marked as a close friend.

I think all of us have a lot of dead links to everywhere else.

Ouch! Its sad to see the list of sites that have circled the drain.

BarbRad wrote on December 20, 2014, 4:10 AM

I'm afraid so. Now if these sites would just stop closing!

BarbRad wrote on December 20, 2014, 4:11 AM

Yes. I was surprised to see how many dead links I still had out there.
