Phantom Text Message

My cell phone has decided that I have an unviewed text message. From whom, I have no idea. What it says? I'm completely clueless as to what the content might be. Because my phone refuses to even show me where the message is, let alone to permit me open it and actually read whatever it says.

I've gone through the entire list of texts in my message log. Twice. I can't see any message that is unopened or unviewed.

I've opened message threads. I've deleted old threads from people with whom I'm no longer in contact. But there's still no change in the display. My phone still shows one unopened message.

Now, I've heard of hidden files on my computer. And I actually know how to toggle between showing and not showing those files.

I've even had messages I publish to different sites on the internet that go missing without explanation.

I have never even heard of a phantom text message on a smart phone. I couldn't even find a topic for this issue when I Googled it! I suppose I could do a factory reset on my phone – or maybe just delete all the messages on the phone to be sure this unread item isn't hiding in a thread somewhere. But that seems like a lot of effort, just to erase the “1” that won't go away.

So I figure for now I'll just subtract one from any tally for text messages that my phone displays, and hope that at some future point the phone will decide to reset itself properly....

This is my Random entry for Dawnwriter 's A-W Category Challenge . I've tackled a few of the tougher categories already, but I've still got to come up with items for categories like Beauty and Fashion, that are really not my cup of tea!

Eight days left in the month, and I've got sixteen categories left to cover – so two posts a day at least if I want to complete the challenge before December! Stay tuned to see if I make it . . .

I have had two messages/comments on this site just go ! Where ,I have no idea..

When I have had those, I have had to (a) look for messages sent out of time (the other person's phone showed the wrong time, so the message appeared out of chronological order) (b) sometimes it has been a voice message. I don't get many of those so I confuse the voice message with a text.

You gotta love cell phones these days. They totally have a mind of their own. Mine likes to keep reminding me of missed calls even after I have returned them, lol.

So that's where it went - I've been looking for that message everywhere! LOL

My phone doesn't let me answer calls! I press on the green "incoming call" icon and, zip, nada. My Kyocera Domino (which had real buttons instead of a touchscreen, was easier to use in that regard.

Good luck figuring it out.

I have also heard about it.
a factory reset may do.Check on the message setting first

Yeah - mine does that, too, but usually on voicemail messages. I'll listen to all of them, but it will continue to tell me I have one. Sometimes text messages, too, but the VM is the most frequent.

No one is infallible and that includes your cell phone (lol). If that entry does not bother you I think you should move on.

Sounds reasonable to me. What else can you do? I have an email box on my computer that has told me for years I have an unread message I've never been able to find. I have selected all and marked all read, but it doesn't make any difference. Guess we just have to live with it.

I think I would reset the phone to the day before I got the message. If it like doing one on the computer it doesn't take that long and isn't a problem at all. Things like this bug me and get to the bottom of it or go nutty trying. lol

I get a couple of these too but then I also have Mr Number which is a free app and blocks numbers and texts.
