Fortune Cookies

I really love just the sound of fortune cookies. The cookies taste great, and I love the messages they bring. I believe in them for faith most of the time. They bring me joy and keep me moving. Ever since I was a little girl, I collected fortune cookies and put them inside a snow-designed sock until I could find a Chinese bag piggy bank that I could put the fortune papers in instead of money. (I have a silver piggy bank for spare change.) Sometimes I love spilling out all the fortune messages and reading them. Doing this for a while inspired me to write a short story on fortune cookies, but I am not sharing it with anyone yet It is in my computer, waiting to be published as I finish up my book full of short stories and poems.

Ever Chinese restaurant give you fortune cookies immediately after you finish a meal and they give you a bill. That's how I collect them. I love Chinese food. I don;t eat it often, but I have been I have been to those awesome restaurants so many times, and they never fail to satisfy me!

I like the cookies sometimes, but I've never thought much of the fortunes written inside.

To me, that's what makes it all the more fun. =)

I don't see much point in reading a "fortune" because I have access to several other systems of divination, all of which are more complex and reliable. It's sort of like reading the horoscope on some cheesy web site, instead of having a proper chart cast...

I don't really believe in fortunes, like the ones in these cookies. I just like to read them for fun because sometimes they say nice things. =)

That may be the difference. The ones we get here these days have pretty stupid or boring things written in them. I remember when I was little, the fortunes were more like something you'd read in the I Ching....

I have heard about fotune cookies and I have seen pictures of them, but I have never had the chance to eat one and read message. The Chinese restauants that I went to in my country didn't serve fortune cookies, but maybe I will get one if I visit a Chinese restaurant abroad.
