Introduction for Dewines
For the last ten years, I have freelanced as a medical translator, translating into English out of a number of languages. I am not a linguist by training, but a biomedical scientist, so my forte is the fact I understand the content I translate, which is a massive step further than simply knowing the terminology.
I moved to Wales some years ago and feel that the land has adopted me. Learning Welsh opens doors for me into Welsh-speaking Wales, which is a very special place indeed. I have become a regular visitor to the National Eisteddfod, where Ty Gwerin (the Folk House) is my second home. I love exploring the folk music of Wales, particularly the uplifting plygain carols. I also travel regularly over the border into England to play in the band of a West Gallery quire based in Bristol.
My other great hobby, well, obsession really, is Egyptology. I am fascinated by the spirituality, religion and mythology of that long gone time. I am fortunate in that I was able to visit Egypt five times so far. This included being in the first larger group permitted to tour the Delta and another tour where we visited little-known places in Middle Egypt. Of course, I've seen all the main sites, with the exception of Abu Simbel. I hope one day to visit the site as part of a Lake Nasser cruise.

Welcome to PP. Medical translation is big business and it is being done by those who have no medical knowledge at all. In your case it must be cake walk for you. You seem to have many interests that will come in handy to post articles here.

Thank you, bestwriter. I can agree with your statement given some of the absolutely dreadful translations I am asked to review at times!

Hello and welcome to Persona Paper. Some researchers believe that the ability to learn languages is a yardstick for native intelligence :).
