Poor Babies
Today I was taking some of my students home from school on the elementary route. I always try to be good to my kids because you never really know what goes on in there home life after school. Well I had two little boys left on my bus and we had about a mile before it was time to drop them off. Well I started talking to them just making conversation and I said to one of them. What are you going to do on this Friday afternoon when you get home. Are you going out and play? He said no I got to go home and me mom and dad has to go down to the church to get us some food because we low. I thought to myself how sad poor babies some of us just think we are in bad shape. My heart just goes out to them I hope them babies are ok.

Aww, that can be sad. Shouldn't they qualify for some sort of food assistance from the state at that point? It's got to suck to be in that kind of position.

Sad when small kids have to worry about where the food will come from instead of just playing...

It's sad that they are so aware of their situation. But let's be generous and recognize that at least their parents are doing what is necessary to make sure they have food. In this economy, a lot of families need a little extra help.

Very heartbreaking to have to hear a child say that. Thanks for sharing your story though.

It just occurred to me that I haven't had that first thing to eat today -- but, thankfully, I never had to go through this sort of thing as a kid and don't have to do so too much even now. Does the school where the kids go have any sort of a free breakfast/lunch/snack program going on? It would be good to make the school system aware that such a program might be needed in your district.
