Pets!

wrote an article about the cat getting out and delaying an important departure to get to a wedding.

It reminded me of this anecdote.

I was dashing around getting ready to leave for work. The dog dissappeared;' he was no where to be found! I don't know if my husband let him out or what happened.

I looked for him; I screamed and yelled my fool head off. I finally gave up and left on the 30 minute drive with 20 minutes to get there.

Down the road I saw the dog in the neighbour's horse pasture, chasing the horses! Barking his food head off! I've always been told that a farmer is entitled to shoot a dog harrassing his animals.

I stopped the car and ran to the fence and screamed at him until the stupid dog (yes that morning I was thinking stupid dog!) came to me.

A simple matter now to get him in the car and take him home! No, his back was covered in manure, covered! He must have found a fresh huge pile to roll around in.

I did shudder and put him in the car. At that point I had to phone work and say I would get there as soon a possible. I cleaned him up somewhat and left him in the garage for the day.

I have to admit, it's memories like that that make me not miss having a pet.

The dog in the picture is from pixabay; it reminded me of my dog.

Pets are adorable, but sometimes they really freak us out! My mother really hates them and that's why I could never own pets :) May be some day.

I no longer have any pets. Hearing that story makes me glad I no longer do!

I don't hate pets, but I am fine not having one any more.

They do give so many memories. I enjoyed the pets while I had them, but we go away often and then they have to go to a kennel.

That morning is pretty high up on my list of why I don't miss pets.

Not the best way to begin a day, that's for sure. I was waiting for you to say the dog had jumped on you with his muddy and manured self, but thankfully you were spared that.

paigea wrote on October 22, 2014, 2:52 PM

At least he listened to me well enough not to jump on me! It was bad enough taking him home in the car!

Kitteh are less trouble by far. http://noes.net/kitteh.JPG

If they get out, the birds won't think they are less trouble. I agree, the cat was a lot less trouble. He could even stay home overnight alone.

What those little rascals put us through!

I love dogs but my doggie days are over....I can't have a pet that can walk farther than I can...lol

paigea wrote on October 22, 2014, 9:08 PM

Very true, they keep life interesting.

I can still walk and walk (since it's very flat where I live) but it's not very nice to be taking the dog to the kennel and we go away often.

I'm glad my post brought this to mind so you could share it with us. I'm rather glad I'm not currently a pet owner anymore. I still get my animal time with the neighbor's cats.

paigea wrote on October 23, 2014, 8:32 AM

I agree. I wish our neighbour's cat would hang around here a little more.

Hey at least our crazy pets give us something to write about, lol. I know longer have big dogs to struggle with but I do have two little spoiled ones. I say when they go to the rainbow bridge I am done. I am getting to old to care for them. This does remind me of a story from years ago....off to post it. Thanks!

This is Guiness the Cat. That's a dog for you. I, of course, would never do anything to delay Debbi. She can manage to be late all on her own.

paigea wrote on October 23, 2014, 10:56 PM

I am sure cats don't roll in manure either. Or dead fish on the beach. Oh yeah that is another story.

paigea wrote on October 23, 2014, 10:57 PM

They do give us stories, don't they.

Funny. By the way, your next-to-the-last sentence can be taken two ways. 1. You aren't upset you have no pet, or 2. There's no way you're going to miss having a pet -- if you need to you will rush out right now and get one.

He is indeed a stupid dog to get himself covered with manure.
