My World is Spinning

My World is Spinning

My apologies for my absence lately, but it will still be a few more days before I will be able to spend time in front of a computer screen.

My world has been spinning for the past 4 days and hasn't stopped yet. When I say spinning, I really mean spinning. I suffer from vertigo attacks and usually they only last 24 hours and I’m good to go. This one has hung on for almost 5 days and the vertigo is not showing any mercy this time.

Vertigo is tough to deal with. For me, it puts me down and out of commission for the duration. I do have medication (it’s like Dramamine) that I am able to take and normally it will give some relief to where I am able to do things. But, not this time. Sitting in front of the computer for more than 30 minutes makes it worse.

Symptoms of vertigo are and not limited to the following: spinning, ringing of the ears, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, not able to walk due to being off balance, sweating, floaters in the vision, headaches and some other symptoms, but these are the ones I am experiencing now. I do get a few minutes of relief throughout the day, but not enough to be able to maintain anything I’m doing.

This by far is one of the worst attacks I've had in the past 10 years of being diagnosed with vertigo and I hope to get some answers soon.

I have an eye appointment with a Neuro Ophthalmologist in Boston at Tuft’s Eye Center tomorrow and then one with my PC on Friday.

I hope to be back here in a few days and back to my normal self, well at least what I call normal. Once I am able to read the screen and not be affected I will be back here reading, commenting and posting some of my recipes that I've worked on this month.

Hope to see everyone soon and get off of this carousel ride, I miss cooking, writing and reading here on Persona.

Oh my gosh, how awful this must be for you! I'm glad you were able to drop by and let us know what is going on so we can hold healing thoughts for you. I hope this extended bout of vertigo soon leaves so you can return to enjoying life.

That sounds horrible, I hope it doesn't last too much longer.

That must be awful. I hope you are able to get some relief soon. I get bouts of dizziness, ringing in the ears and nausea but nothing that hangs on for days as you describe. Hope to see you back soon!

FIVE DAYS? I don't even think I've ever had the flu or food poisoning for five days straight. Whhhoo! I can't - and don't wanna - imagine.

Tina, I'm so sorry to hear this. You will be in my prayers, for sure. I hope your world stops spinning soon.

I hope the eye doctor can help you. I was amazed the last time when I went to the eye doctor at the things they can diagnose. Good luck.

Fortunately, a lot of people who suffer from vertigo can get relief by do-it-yourself acupressure. I have seen several websites that show how to do this. It may not work for everyone, but I should think it would be worth a try.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry to hear this. I know that I have had episodes of dizziness that were pretty brief (just a few hours), but they felt horrible--completely debilitating. I hope you will be able to overcome this.

To: nbaquero &AbbyG paigea &Fiesty56 melody23 LeaPea2417 Donna_Thacker LoudMan BarbRad Linda-From-US JanetJenson AliCanary - Thanks so much for your well wishes. Yes, vertigo is a tough one! Especially if it hangs on this long. Yesterday the Dr. upped my meclizene and if nothing changes in 3 days then we will go from there. Eye appt went well and I will be referred to a retina specialist. P)osting a few recipes today, but won't be on long. Will try to read through some of your postings and then back to the couch for me! I was joking with my husband last night and told him if it wasn't for the Dr's appt's I would be a cheap drunk (vertigo), but he was kind enough (I think) to say there is nothing cheap about me. LOL

JanetJenson - I've thought about acupuncture for relief and I think at the beginning of next week I will call around and see what they say and go in for a consultation on having it done. At home I use pressure points and some exercises that I was given by my Dr. but still no relief.

Some say they get a bit of relief from Vertigo dizziness with herbal teas. Some suggest Ginger and Ginko. I use a lot of herbal remedies but have never tried this for dizziness. Might be worth researching.
