Fungus Among Us

We saw this stump on the side of the road while driving through Cade's Cove this past weekend. We had already spied a few but didn't see them in time to pull off. We saw this one in time though, thank goodness, because I just love fungus and mushrooms. Who doesn't?

The first photo is of the whole side of the stump. There were quite a few fungus growths on it. I like that shot but the next one is my favorite. I just like the angle better. I'm sure some will like the full on shot the best. Here is the other photo.

I just like the green of the grass on the side and the angle of this shot. Which one do you like best? Or do you just not like fungus at all?

Fungi are amazing organisms. They come in such a variety of shapes and colours - I didn't know brown could have so many shades! :)

They really are cool. I love finding them when I'm out places.

I like both photos, but the green in the second one adds some nice contrast.

Thanks. That's what I think too. I'm glad we found the stump.

Fascinating pictures of the fungus. You pick some interesting subjects.

LOL, I've been told that before. I've had more than one person tell me they started looking at things differently after seeing my photos for a while. I like that.

I like the one with the green in them as well. Great pictures!

I love mushrooms as well and those pictures look great.

Great shots Angel. I like the second one the best I think because of the contrast. I wish I had time to go out and play with my camera like I used to. I miss it!

Well it means the tree is dead so that's a little sad. Nice pictures though.

They sure do make for a beautiful photo but I have to admit that while I like mushrooms I'm leery of them in the wild. Of course I don't know which ones are safe and which are poisonous so I steer clear unless its at the grocery store, lol.

Maybe you'll get to again soon.

AngelSharum wrote on October 22, 2014, 4:45 PM

They have had a problem with beetles killing the trees.

I don't touch them either, for the same reason.

Lovely bracket fungi. Don't know how I missed this first time round!

Thanks. I had no idea what kind of fungus it was. I just thought it looked cool.
