It Is Fun To Express Your Individuality

Somewhere, in all of us there is an individual struggling to get out. There are some who have no problem finding this individual while others find it difficult to be themself. Lack of confidence and the desire to "be like the crowd" keep some from doing what they may really want to do in their life--their style, education, and even their beliefs.

One important aspect of becoming an individual where personal ideas and interests can be expressed is to make sure that what one does is not harmful to others. It is alright to be different as long as no wrong is done to another person.

Style is one place where the individuality aspect is often not followed. When the fashions come out for any one season it is not uncommon for everyone to go shopping to get the latest jeans, blouses, or dresses that show up in the stores. Some even wear things they do not care for just to be like everyone else. Wearing something that is perfectly good, yet left in the closet from several years ago does not cross some people's mind because they are driven to be like everyone else, not confident in their own individual choices.

I completely agree and this is a message I try to teach my own kids as well.

I wore two different color socks to work one day. I was expressing my hangover more so than my individualism though.

I don't know how to be anyone else. I won't say that I never followed the latest trend at any point in my lifetime, but I definitely don't now.

I don't think I've ever had trouble expressing my individuality! I tell my kids I live under a rock. I do what feels good for me - whether it's clothing, food, reading materials or entertainment, etc. I've never really known what's popular at any given moment, and frankly couldn't care most of the time.

Individuality can be a dangerous thing. It is much safer to be part of the herd, blend in with the crowd, merge into the background. Having said that I really don't do much 'running with the herd' - I prefer to go my own way.

The older I become, the less I am concerned about conformity or lack thereof. Those years as a teen can be pretty difficult with peer pressure, but once a person becomes an adult I think it is much easier to express indiviuality.

Anyone who knows me knows that I march to my own drummer. I am too old to do what others do when I don't enjoy it.

I am a big fan of creative expression, and people-watching would be frightfully dull if everyone looked the same.

I don't worry too much about fashion at all these days, but when I do I'll buy what I want whether others like it or not. :)
