Editing

I wanted to show y'all the difference between my original and edited photos. The first photo is the original with no editing at all. I thought it was a nice photo. It's actually the only one I kept of the shots I took today. Something about it spoke to me.

This second shot is my "normal" edit. I didn't do much of anything to it but lighting and add the vignette. I like this fairly well.

This next one is an edit in which I used one of the effects in Perfect Effects 8. I really like the effect but I know not everyone will. I think it brings out the colors and highlights very nicely and it just looks like "fall" to me.

Which version do you like best? Why do you like that one? Are you totally against editing in photography all together or just major edits? I'm curious how everyone feels about this subject. Personally, I think there is a place for editing but it depends on the photo and how the original looks.

I like all actually. I'm into phoneography and I like editing and layering my photos. But sometimes I would not use any filter on my photo at all. It was a very nice shot by the way. I enjoy macro mode the most.

Thanks. Yeah, I have fun with macro photography as well.

I'd pick number two but only because it's brighter and more vivid.

AngelSharum wrote on October 13, 2014, 7:55 PM

Yeah, it is what my normal edits are like. Just slightly enhancing the original photo.

I don't think a blanket statement such as "photo editing is good" or "photo editing is bad" is true in either direction. You as the photographer and artist know what your intentions are, or are likely to be, when you take the photo. I see nothing wrong with edits. Not everyone will like every edit, but then not everyone will be in love with every photo either.

I prefer the third photo and agree with you that this look says "fall."

I do know some people who are totally against editing at all. They just don't like it...lol

I don't understand that way of thinking myself, but certainly everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. I just hope you won't let other people's opinions sway you too much in how your approach your photography and photos.

Nah, I do what I want. They are my photos after all. :)

I like the second shot the best - your normal edit. I like the colors in that one the best.

I do not like editing. I would rather set my camera before clicking the picture.

I like the first one best because the colors look more authentic to me. i have nothing against editing, but I usually confine my edits to cropping and re sizing.

I like the second picture best, to me, the focus of the photograph is more clearly on the centre leaves, whereas the leaves in the 3rd photo do not appear as clear.

I like picture number two better also. The colors really are a little more vivid.

AngelSharum wrote on October 14, 2014, 1:23 PM

I like that one too. I was just playing around to see what I could do with the other one, and then I really liked it.

AngelSharum wrote on October 14, 2014, 1:24 PM

That is good, but not all cameras take colors correctly and what you get may not be what you saw. Even when you play with the settings. Depends on what type camera you have.

AngelSharum wrote on October 14, 2014, 1:24 PM

I have friends like you...lol. To me, there isn't much difference in the first and second photo. I didn't do much editing to it at all.

AngelSharum wrote on October 14, 2014, 1:25 PM

Yeah, the third one doesn't have as much of a central focus, true.

You may have seen some of my pictures. They are exactly what I see. I have a Sony digital DSC H50 with several features of which I only use a few. Editing to get the exact colours in your case may be a good idea. I am with you on that.
