Canning, Canning and More Canning

Canning, Canning and Canning

I’ve been hiding away in my kitchen getting our vegetables from the garden processed and canned for the winter. This is the first time in 10 years that I've actually wanted to do it and I can seem to get enough!

So far I’ve canned:

Marinara (Spaghetti) Sauce

Salsa – Hot! Hot!

Tomato Soup - for that recipe click ** HERE **

Hot Pepper Sauce

All of the vegetables we grew ourselves and I think we did a wonderful job this year. Maybe that’s why I’m enjoy being in the kitchen so much!

All of the above recipes will be following soon! I have to say my favorite is the pepper sauce and the marinara sauce. Oh, wait… the tomato soup is killer! Well, darn… so is the salsa!

It’s all good!

I have so much space in my garden but nothing that I can make sauces and whatever of, seems to grow successfully. :( You have a done a great job. What patience, I say!!!

I admire you so much for your work in your kitchen. I've been neglecting mine terribly. It's really hard to work around the ants, for one thing.

Oh, I can't wait for the tomato soup recipe! I love cream of tomato soup, but it's the one soup I've never tried to make at home....

I know, they love to dig :) We have to fend off the wild animals here.

Those ants can take over everything!! We had them so bad one year due to all the rain we received, and living next to a farm doesn't help. We finally stuck a ant trap in every corner of the house, under cupboards and would put them out on the counter tops at night. Now I keep a spray bottle of 80% vinegar and 20% water and spray my counters after dinner at night. I also spray the wood floors and by my sliding glass door once per week. We haven't had an ant problem in 4 years now.

This year I'm canning everything! Going to make up some chili next week and jar it up! So much easier to do it this way, then you just grab a jar and it's like getting it fresh. My mother and grandmother used to can everything each year. I sure miss her okra and greenbeans.

They are ignoring my latest ant traps, the dry ones that really are supposed to kill of the colony. The liquid traps have turned slid and they skate on them. I'll try the vinegar.

It's very satisfying to see jars upon jars of canned food sitting on the counter. Looks like you're a wiz at it!

That's a lot of sauces you got there!

Looking forward to reading your recipe for the spicy salsa and the hot pepper sauce!

tinamarie Those are great looking tomatoes. I love tomatoes and tomato sauce. My favorite tomatoes are plum tomatoes. You seem to be enjoying canning all those tomatoes. Okay, when am I coming over for dinner? LOL.

Thanks DorothyGale - I haven't canned in 10 years! I'm loving it.

Wow, you've canned a lot. And your tomatoes look wonderful. All of our tomatoes had spots on them and were on the small side. Still tasty once peeled.
