Friends of Persona Paper Week 3 September 2014

I'm taking the liberty of linking to SuffolkJason 's post for part of this Week 3 FOPP update , because he was kind -- and gentle -- enough to do the hard work for me.

We have a seasoned writer who has decided to take up the FOPP Challenge: Ruby3881 . On behalf of the entire group, we welcome you with open arms. May the Force be with you!

In Ruby3881 's comment to me on this post , she had some suggestions about ways we can tweak a few things and ideas to add.

One of the concerns was about a goal in the challenge that is currently stated: Follow other Friends of Persona Paper . Her concern is that this statement could be misconstrued that FOPP is an exchange group. Certainly it is not, but for some reading this statement, I can see where that understanding could happen. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this and how we can tweak it -- or eliminate it -- to dispel any misunderstandings.

Ruby3881's additional suggestions I am going to put into the form of polls. Everyone is free to come and vote -- or not -- on whether as a group we wish to add these goals to the challenge. Of course, anyone in the group can do the same -- begin a poll of his/her own, or write a comment here with an idea that we take to a poll.

Meeting adjourned. All those in favor say "Yea!" All those opposed say, "Nay!" Hmmm, the "yeas" have it. : )

Simply tell 'em FOPPers are better to follow than FAPPers. :)

I don't see it as an exchange group--I see it as a way to meet new people. It's handy to have a list of new members to check out and follow (if we want to--no pressure!)

WE could state that the tag makes it easy to spot the posts of our members so we can read those that interest us. I agree there should be no pressure to actually follow all the other members. First, no one can really keep up with all of them. At least I can't. And we do want time left to interact with new members so we don't become a clique.

Probably best to just remove the challenge to "Follow other Fopp'ers" (or whatever the wording is). I think most/all FOPP'ers have the common sense to check out other FOPP'ers (because they're likely to be active/potentially interesting). Then any hint of it being an exchange group is removed. Barb is right- it's difficult to keep up with everybody now- it will be nigh impossible when we have 50+ FOPP'ers. We don't have to like/follow/support each other- we have to like/follow/support Persona Paper. I see the main benefits of FOPP as
1- The list of FOPP'ers gives EVERYBODY a simple list of members to check out.
2- It's motivational. This is a young site and it needs a number of people that believe in it and are willing to commit to it- to help it get established. You can do this through individual determination- Loudman and Bestwriter spring to mind (apologies to others I've missed). Some people like to have the encouragement and reassurance that they're not alone and others are willing to commit- that's where comes in.

Another idea- we could add a list of honorary Fopp'ers- people like Bestwriter and Loudman- that are allergic to joining groups but who have proved by their actions that they are friends of Persona Paper.

" We don't have to like/follow/support each other- we have to like/follow/support Persona Paper." I fully agree with you. This should be the approach. I go anywhere and everywhere where I find interesting posts.

I did not directly disapprove of this move of having groups but after what I saw at myLot where there was one particular group who stopped at nothing to hurt those who were not in their group I somehow dread this thought. As of now Persona is a place where everyone likes everyone else and I want to stay it that way.,

suffolkjason wrote on September 19, 2014, 5:25 AM

That sort of behavior at myLot would get you thrown out of FOPP immediately.

bestwriter wrote on September 19, 2014, 5:30 AM

The leader of that gang fortunately has not joined here!

Ruby3881 wrote on September 19, 2014, 8:22 AM

I agree that the member list is an idea we should keep, and that members will have the good sense to check each other out anyway. The wording that appeals to me - and perhaps it will make sense to others too - is that the members of FOPP have made a special effort to support Persona Paper and encourage its growth :)

Thanks for another shout out, dear friend! So kind of you to be taking the time to give my suggestions such careful consideration :)

Maybe the person who is acting as secretary for a given month might like to make special mention of Persona Paper members whose efforts to nurture and grow the site had been noticed over the previous weeks? That way it feels more like recognition for a user's work, rather than membership in an elite group. It's a good way to motivate all users to do something for the community, too :)

Ruby3881 wrote on September 19, 2014, 8:32 AM

Trust you to make that connection, LOL!

LoudMan wrote on September 19, 2014, 12:01 PM

What? You haven't heard of the / wars? Ask SuffolkJason

LoudMan wrote on September 19, 2014, 12:02 PM

Ask TinaMarie too. Once she's sober enough, she'll confirm everything I say. Yes she will. Ask Feisty56 too.

tinamarie wrote on September 19, 2014, 2:29 PM

That will never happen Loudman ! Sober... pfft... I cook with wine! It's better to follow the FOPP'ers instead of FAPP'ers :)

WAIT, what?

Is there going to be pizza?

I think that Ruby3881 has made a great point in saying that it could be construed as an exchange group but I love the idea of a member's list. It helps with the new people on here as it gives them a list of great writers to start their PersonaPaper journey.
