Sunrise With Contrails

I was greeted to a lovely sunrise this morning when I got up, and not only was there a lovely red sky awaiting me, it was filled with a dozen or more contrails as well, making quite a gorgeous scene.

Being located in the middle of the south coast of England, early morning is when many of the flights from the USA are arriving to their destinations in Europe, and having flown over the North Atlantic they very often pass over us at 35,000 feet or higher. On a morning like this they all end up leaving contrails (or vapour trails) in the sky, which can be a pretty sight.

I thought that I would share this with you and hope you enjoy a glimpse of what I saw when I looked out of the kitchen window first thing this morning.

Do you like sunrises and sunsets too?

I certainly do- I think it's a standard psychological question to ask whether you appreciate man-made objects or natural wonders more. For me, it has to be nature.

Man-made graffiti in the sky ruined many a good landscape shot...lol

Wow, what a beautiful picture. Looks like some of the sunrise and sunsets here in the mountains of Maine.

I love to view sunrises and sunsets. Nothing can be as glorious as seeing the red orange rays of the sun against blue backdrop of the sky.

I love them. We live near a military base, and our evening sunsets here also have these lovely contrails.

Yes I do agree with you - for the most part. So much of nature is beautiful on it's own, but when the sky is pink and full of contrails it can sometimes take on a different kind of beauty as well.

Well that's true. However some of my sunrise shots taken in Florida look good with a silhouette of people or maybe a yacht in the distance.

The weather and some of the scenery here are similar to Maine, or at least that's what I thought when I visited Portland and Old Orchard Beach a few years ago. It's far more tranquil in Maine though.

Being on the flightpath for the two main London airports and also for traffic coming to/from the USA and Europe we get our fair share. The local airport is only several miles away, but the planes are too low to leave a trail.

I just wish we could see nice sunsets, but we are on the wrong side of a hill unfortunately. We just get a reflection of the bright red skies in the windows.

I love sunsets and sunrises. My favorite is the auroras. The way they dance with each other. It's just a beautiful sight.

Auroras just look unreal to me, they look on tv like something out of a sci-fi movie and a bad one at that. I really do want to see one for myself so I can believe they are real, because they are such an unusual sight.
