A collection of Self Portaits of an Artist suffering from Alzheimer's Disease

The artist is William Utermohlen .

This goes to show the scary side of suffering from this dreaded disease. Not only are you forgetting all your loved ones but you soon start to lose your natural talent as you slowly descend into nothingness.

The paintings starkly reveal the artist’s descent into dementia, as his world began to tilt, perspectives flattened and details melted away. His wife and his doctors said he seemed aware at times that technical flaws had crept into his work, but he could not figure out how to correct them.

Mr. Utermohlen spend the remainder of his life in a nursing home. He died in 2007.

woah! amazing, an artist still an artist, from the detail painting down from a simple line drawing, expecting he already had an Alzheimer's Disease. emoticon

Wow this is sad... alzheimers is a scary disease and I can only imagine the suffering and damage it causes for years until your life is claimed. I certainly hope for, if not a cure than something to stop or severely slow the progress in time.

I really feel for the poor artist, and how he portrayed his feelings
